Several runners have stated their intention to target
the AR for 10,000m this season. And we have several capable:
BK:
12:58/27:38 PR
Culpepper 13:29/27:39
PR
Keflezighi 13:11/
27:53
Rodgers
13:18/27:55
Abdirahman 27:46
Khannouchi
?
While
they all need to improve by 20-30 seconds to crack the 27:20.56 that has held
for 15 years ... and some are a real long shot (KK) ... the possibilities in
this WC year for Americans remain interesting.
Salazar never broke 13:20 until the year he ran
27:25. And I think he only broke 13:20 once. I think Nenow only
cracked 13:20 once in his career (maybe twice). And Virgin went 13:19
twice ... so the possibility seems like it is there as all of these guys are
capable of 5k's in that range or faster.
Anyway, if you've read this far, you are a distance fan
like me, and my trivia question is:
Which
American ran the most sub-28:00-flat races in their career?
Races
must be on the track only. Was it Salazar? Todd
Williams? Shorter? Virgin? Someone else?
Bonus
for those who can name the top-three, in order, with the number of 10k's they
ran under 1680 seconds.
Who posted the most sub-28's
worldwide? Without checking electronically,
I am betting it is an old-timer like Alberto
Cova.
