The "mystery" national class runner who has committed to this November's New York City Marathon is Deena Drossin. She'll be making her marathon debut at the race which is also the USA national championships this year. Drossin, of course, is a multiple national cross country champion and won the Olympic Trials 10,000 last year in 31:51. Saturday she ran the longest race of her career at the Old Kent River Bank 25-K and didn't have an auspicous finish. She was forced to back off late in the race when her lower back, hips and hamstrings unexpectedly tightened up. Placed fifth overall (3rd American) is 1:28:20.
