<< I recently heard that Iverson ran sub 5 in a mile at a sixers practice.
Does
this impress anyone else? >>

No. My HS team was not particularly deep or amazingly great ... and we had
guys who weren't goo at any other events thrown into the 1600m, because they
couldn't sprint or throw that well. These were the guys who ran track
because they were training for football. My friend Chuck Brown ran a 4:59
and couldn't get into many dual meets. We had a few poindexters who had
less athletic ability in their whole lives than Iverson has in his cornrows
... and they ran 5:00-flat to 5:05.

<< I really doubt that he was doing any sort of running to get in shape for
this. >>

Except the probable 2-5 hours a day he does during games and practice.

<< I've seen sub 47 400 guys that couldn't go sub 5 and none of them have
Iverson's quickness. >>

You're right about this, some good/great sprinters are terrible at anything
longer than the longest interval they have ever run ... which is often 400m.

<< I know that he was state MVP of football (in VA) running the option, but
could he have been a great runner as well? >>

I think he might have been a good runner, based on athletic talent, not a
sub-5 mile. Every male world class tennis player, basketball player,
Lacrosse player, soccer player, bike racer, etc. should be able to run a
5:00 mile any time of the year. As long as they are not seriously
overweight.

<< I think so. I think Iverson could be a world class athlete in any sport
that
he pursued. >>

Not the mile.
