<<< I've actually felt all along (since the summer before they started
college) that Jennings should have been in the distance events and Riley
in the mid-distances. It would be interesting to see how Jennings
responds to mileage (not that I'm a believer in it) and Riley to fast
stuff. Jennings style seems suited to the longer stuff, and he'd be one
of the few Americans with the leg speed to hang with an international
kick. >>>

Jennings has often run the 5k over the last few years ... never matching his
demonstrated ability in the 800/1500. And Riley has often run the 1500 over
the last 4 seasons ... never reaching the same level that he demonstrated
early on in the 5k (13:35).

Riley ran no more than 35 mpw in HS ... usually less. And he said he
concentrated on "speedwork" all through the winters and the springs of his
HS years (where he went 3:43 and 8:5Xy). I doubt he could get too much
better at 1500 than he has, as he and Lananna have carefully maximized his
potential (IMO).

Jennings on higher mileage? He tried that. It lead to a stress fracture
and him red-shirting in XC.
