USATF National Club Championships begin Friday

    INDIANAPOLIS - The inaugural USATF National Track & Field Club 
Championships will take place July 20-21 at the Indiana University Michael A. 
Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. The Indiana Invaders 
are the local organizers of the event.
    A total of 19 men's teams and 13 women's teams will contend for 
championship titles.  An overall Men's & Women's Team title will also be 
awarded based on combined scores.
    Top contenders for the men's team title include the Greater Boston Track 
Club, the Indiana Invaders, Maryland Elite, Pioneer Track Club from 
Arlington, Texas, and Athenian Athletics from Ypsilanti, Michigan.
    Women's team favorites include Boston International, Pioneer Track Club, 
Maryland Elite, the Shore Athletic Club from Cranbury, New Jersey and the 
host Indiana Invaders, featuring 2000 Olympic heptathlete DeDee Nathan, who 
will compete in her specialty.
    Field events will include "non-club" athletes to fill out the fields. 
Two-time Olympian and 2001 U.S. champ Kevin McMahon will compete in the men's 
hammer throw.   
    The event will begin Friday at 4:00 p.m., and Saturday at 4:30 p.m. local
