Dear netters,

meanwhile the Kuwaiti Federation has shed some light on the
problem of the citizenship of Bashar Ibrahim, UTEP's 1500m
runner. Bashar's mother is a Kuwaiti, residing in Kuwait, whereas
his father lives in the US and has got Sudanese citizenship.
According to Kuwaiti law, youths with Kuwaiti mothers and non-
Kuwaiti fathers stay native citizens until the age of 21 and then their
Kuwaiti citizenship ceases. So according to Kuwaiti law, Bashar
Ibrahim became a Sudanese citizen in 2001.
