It's not quite March Madness, but I would hope that collegiate track can make some hay out of the fact that not only do we now have a Regionals weekend leading into Nationals (albeit w/ a week's separation), but it appears we're also going to have (again w/ a week off) a major conjunction of conference championships the May 15 weekend next year.
What I would call the 5 major confernces (we can fight over that defintiiton elsewhere if you like) are all on for that weekend: Big 10, Big 12, SEC, IC4A, Pac-10. And probably lots of others. (Big East and ACC no.) It's not "playoffs," but there are grouped meets with ever-increasing levels of national appeal. That can't be bad for the sport, can it? I also don't see how this setup is going to negatively impact any of the traditional April majors. Or am I missing something? gh
