Montgomery's race was awesome - and I'm of the school of
more-power-to-him for getting the max wind and the "perfect" start - but
this is too much. 100 meters did all that damage? He needs two weeks to
recover? Ridiculous!

>MADRID, Spain -- Tim Montgomery, still recovering from his world-record run
>last weekend, will not race in the 100 meters Friday in the World Cup.
>
>Montgomery broke the world record Saturday in Paris, finishing in 9.78
>seconds to knock 0.01 seconds off the mark held by fellow American Maurice
>Greene.
>
>"He's out," manager Charles Wells said Wednesday. "He's not physically
>ready to run. His body is hurting. It's impossible for him to come back. It
>takes two weeks for his body to recover."
>
>Wells said Montgomery might attempt to run a leg of the 400 relay if he's
>needed.
>
>"If his country asks him, if they need him, if someone gets hurt he could
>do it for his country," Wells said. "If you'd ever run 9.78, you would
>understand."
>
>In an interview Tuesday, Montgomery said he was hurting after setting the
>record but suggested he might be back.
>
>"My feet are swollen from striking the ground so hard," he said. "My knees
>are swollen, my joints are swollen, so we took a lot of ice baths and were
>just doing the necessary precautions to make sure that I'm healthy enough
>to run this weekend."
>
>"Mentally I feel good, I just have swelling in my knees and feet and my
>hamstrings are a little tight."
