"Scandal", that's ridiculous. It is the athlete and the coaches responsibility to know what race to run. It also seems like Albright really doesn't care about the trip so I don't see the point in getting uptight about it. She said she had fun, man how could an athlete be happy with only having fun? Maybe thats enough for some people.
The meet info clearly states that an athlete must run in the seeded race to go to the nationals. That's the rules, the athletes and coach are responsible for knowing the rules, if someone doesn't follow them then it's their own faught. Certain people talk all day about how they hate certain little rules. Maybe they are little but if someone breaks them then it's their faught, not that anyone broke a rule in this matter. Officials aren't looking to hurt the athletes so don't blaim them when athletes and coaches screw up. If Albright or anyone else thinks she should be going to nationals then blame Albright and her coach. Ultimately everything rest in the hands of those two people. The meet info also post what times finished where the previous year, at least it always has in the past. I'm sure it still does. Albright had every opportunity to find out what race she should run. Max and his crew did a great job, 2600 athletes this year in the south!
