Netters:

An interesting column appeared in yesterday;s Newark Star-Ledger ion
the Augusta situation, authored by Paul Mulshine, a onetime CC runner at St.
Joseph's (now Msgr. Donovan) in Toims River and the paper's resident
libertarian

Among other things, he contrasted two situations:

        1) That of Douglass College, an all-women's unit of Rutgers
University and

        2) Auguata National

He said that a Rutgers grad had, several years ago, asked him to
attack Douglass for its exclusionary policy. He did not do so for two
reasons, he said: 1) he believes in single sex education and 2) it wouldn;t
do any good since there is a double standard in these affairs,.for while
women can exclude men from their associations, they attack men for
exercising the same privilege.

In other words, he said, you have publicly supported Douglass
allowed to discriminate, while privately-supported Augusta National cannot.

You migt be able to read the whole column on the Star Ledger
website.

The Star-Ledger, by the way has editorially supported the attack on
Augusta and another columnist, Sid Dorfman (for whom I once worked) had
backed the attack, pointing out that the admittance of women to one of NJ's
premium clubs, Baltusrol, had resulted in various clubhouse
improvements---better food, better decor, etc., all of which Mulshine
deplored in his usual picturesque style.
