Jacobs named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Regina Jacobs has been named USA Track & Field's
Athlete of the Week following her world record-breaking performance in
the 1,500 meters Saturday at the adidas Boston Indoor Games.

Jacobs broke 4 minutes for 1,500 meters for the first time in
her storied career in Boston running 3:59.98 to break Romanian Doina
Melinte's world record of 4:00.27 set in 1990.
Other impressive performances from last week included Olympic pole vault
gold medalist Stacy Dragila, who cleared 4.71 meters/15 feet, 5.5 inches
in Boston to beat her own American record of 4.70/15-5 in the Visa
women's pole vault.

World-leading performances by American men in Boston included
Maurice Greene's 6.52 in the 60 meters and Darvis Patton's 20.73 in the
200 meters. Another world leading mark was set at the Bodybuilding.com
Invite in Boise, Idaho, when Charles Clinger cleared of 2.34m/7-8 in the
high jump.

Now in its third year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is
designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport.
USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the
USATF Web site. Selections are based on top performances and results
from the previous week.
