Netters:

Two corrections on my post about Ken Sinkovitz.

    1) His 48.8 was on the 3rd leg of the relay, not the opening

        2) he will be running at Landover on March 15-16, not in NY

While on that subject, I feel an opportunity for a real National
meet was missed this year when Landover did not go a week earlier. Perhaps,
they couldn;t, but there was no other reason to go head to head on such a
late date. New York had to because its state meet is the previous week, but
I recall weel that, some 14 years ago, when there was one National meet, at
Navy, it was held the same weekend as the NY state meet. Brad Sumner had one
of the great HS doubles that weekend with a NR at 600M in the NY meet on
saturday and an 800 win in Annapolis the next day.

I had a lot of questions in NJ this year as to why the meets have to
be the same weekend and I could give no logical answer. Some boys and girls
will be able to double because of the slightly different schedule (Mike
Morrison is due to HJ at both meets, for example) but the athletes deserve a
chance to meet the best in all events.

The lkate date this year cost both meets the presence of the Red
Bank girls' DMR team (and, perhaps, individual efforts by the Trotters)---as
one boy pout it to me: "If I compete that weekend, when do I get a proper
rest before outdoors.

I think it is time that the directors of both meets look at their
own consciences and decide if the present situation is in the best interest
of the sport. And if there must be two meets, let them not be in conflict
with each other.
