Defending champ Bowen had a busy day(TJ, hurdles, PV). Here, she competed in
the TJ preliminaries before scooting over to the PV. She cleared easily at
10-00 before raising the bar to 11-00. She cleared those on her first try
raising the bar finally to 12-02. After two sub par performances, Bowen

very beneficial wind(4.3mps) to sail to 37-8.50. Florunoy going immediately
afterwards improves to 36-8 into a headwind(-1.8mps). No improvements for
either in the final jump.
Jenije is only an 8th Grader! Two consecutive victories.

Shot Put:
Traynor gets a big throw to upset defending state champion, Kittery Neal.
Of note, Neal is a top level basketball player. Neal also ran on Oak Hall's
4 x 400m relay team! Pretty rare combination.

7, Roberts, Chad, Mount Dora Bible, 50.79.
800:
A slowish first 400m(60, I think) sets it up for a mad dash to the finish.
Truchelut storms ahead with 100m to go and looks to be on his way to the
victory. Tomlinson(1:57 in the 4x 800) also begins to move well out of the
turn. But lucking behind them is compact running Justin Taylor. In the last
50m, Taylor starts charging hard on the outside gaining huge chunks of
yardage on Truchelut. He edges Truchelut who reaches out with his right arm
almost impeding Taylor and crahses to the track. It wasn't enough to stop
Taylor who walks into the infield grasping his face and looking skyward in
disbelief.
1, Taylor, Justin, St. Joseph's, 1:59.43. 2, Truchelut, Ryan, Trinity,
1:59.49. 3, Tomlinson, Mark, Dade Christian, 2:00.13. 4, Steinke, Charles,
Trinity Christia, 2:00.61.
1600:
A slow first 800m of 2:15 left his race open to anyone. Fastest region
qualifier John Roberts was the only one who was not in it.
Al Matheny, who lost his shoe and a tangle up just past 600m decides to go
it on his own and turns up the heat as Curley, Taylor and Lumpkins shadow
him.
With 400m, Matheny begins to show the strain of the pace and smooth striding
Curley takes the lead. At the top of the straight, Taylor begins to charge
home blasting the final 100m like a sprinter. His final 400m was 60. His
final half under 2:06.
1, Taylor, Justin, St. Joseph's, 4:21.25. 2, Curley, Steve, Trinity,
4:23.43. 3, Matheny, Al, Oak Hall, 4:27.14. 4, Lumpkins, Jay, First Academy,
4:30.90. 5, 6, Steinke, Charles, Trinity Christia, 4:35.99. 7, Roberts,
John, Trinity, 4:38.50.
3200
Nick Jarriel set a torrid pace early that cries the pack of Joiner, Curley
and Holden to an opening 1600m of 4:44. Joiner's solid pace is too much for
Curley as drops off into 3rd.
Joiner continued to hit 72, 73 for the next two laps or so setting up
another showdown between last year's runner-up,Joiner and 2003 state champ,
Holden.
Joiner continued to keep the pace stiff, but Holden stalked him in second.
He finally took the lead with 400m to go.
Joiner kept him in check down the backstretch as Holden tried to win it
outright.
200m to go and Holden was on a tear. Arms pumping he opened up a little more
daylight on the tough Joiner.
Joiner though, was not done. He bore down and started catching Holden who
seemed to lose some of his momentum.
Down the homestretch, joiner continued to bear down on Holden who was
passing runners on the right and looking over his shoulder. Joiner ran out
of real eastate as Holden won his second consecutive title.
In both his state wins, Holden had not broken 10:00 during the season! Last
year, it was a 23 second improvement. This year, it was 35 seconds! He
clobbered his PR. 9:37.18, set in last years state final with his 9:25.70!
Lastly, Holden runs his last 800m in 2:14, his last 400m in 62, and his last
200m in 29. Joiner keeps right with him and finishes with a 28!
1, Holden, Nathan, Indian Rocks, 9:25.70. 2, Joiner, Austin, Holy Trinity
Mel, 9:26.16. 3, Curley, Steve, Trinity, 9:46.51. 6, Conn, Daniel, Trinity
Catholic, 10:04.59
110 Hurdles:
Lanky Granger comes up with the win.
1, Granger, Reuben, Hollywood Christ, 14.77. 2, Davey, Kevin, MaClay, 15.62.
3, Brown, Keith, Baldwin, 16.04.
300 Hurdles:
Granger gets a huge lead and looks to be on a sub 38npace. He clobbers the
last hurdle tangling himself up so badly it drew sighs from the crowd( or
maybe it was just me).
Second title for him for the night.
1, Granger, Reuben, Hollywood Christ, 38.82. 2, Large, Brian, Indian Rocks,
39.51. 3, Davey, Kevin, MaClay, 40.81.
4x100:
PKY was DQ'ed in last year's final bacause of a unifrom violation which led
to an argument( Pretty common in Florida, I guess).
This year, they storm to victory, but nearly disqualify themselves as the
anchor finishes and begins" excessive" celebration which borders on
taunting. The third leg races down the track and once they have won, he
begins pumping his arms and starts back down the track looking towards the
stands. An official finally gets his attention and escorts him into the
infield. No DQ!
1, P.K.Yonge School 'A' (Cason, Derek, Leonard, Dynell, Long, Steven,

School 'A' (Gonzalez, Roly, Kirtland, Bill , Ali, Rasheed , Stewart, kyle ),
3:27.16.
4x800:
Two time defending state champ, Trinity Prep was looking for the three peat
and looked to be on it's way, but Dade, the region 4 champion who ran a good
8:08 last week, led at the final exchange.
Down the backstretch, Dade Christian continued to lead, but trinity Prep
surged past at the 200m to regain it.
Trinity Prep seemed to have the edge on a tired looking Dade Christian
anchor.
100m out, that anchor, Mark Tomlinson, began to see he had a chance. He
began his sprint home and pulled away for the title in a solid 8:02.79.
1, Dade Christian 'A' (Guevara, Alan, Betancourt, Fidel, Gil, Johnny,
Tomlinson, Mark), 8:02.79. 2, Trinity Preparatory 'A' (Truchelut, Ryan,

Jay), 8:17.59.
