The title was put away with the 3,200 and despite Andy Biladeau's bum knee, the team earned the points they needed to win.
``It was good for the team that it was him running the race. If it was anyone else [who was injured], we probably wouldn't have won,'' Coach Andy Matthews said of Biladeau. ``But he's a tough kid. He may not look like it, but he is. He's tough as a $2 steak.''
Beau Burroughs easily made the state meet, beating his nearest opponent by 20 feet in the discus and 15 in the shot put. Burroughs earned a personal best in the discus, throwing 174 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

But all eyes were on Barringer, the junior running machine who churned out eight laps around Bob Mosher Track faster than Floridian in history. Her time of 10:35.21 is six seconds faster than the existing state record for 3,200 meters, 10:41.59 by Kara Scanlon of Jacksonville Episcopal. Records can only be set at the state meet.
The time is also the fastest in Florida since Sharon Chiong of Miami Killian ran 10:33.8 for two miles in 1982.
Barringer also dipped below the 5-minute mark for the 1,600 for the fifth time, running a district record 4:57.10.
"My hope is to double at state," Barringer said.

Jackie Areson was disqualified FOR UNREASONABLE REASONS!
An official's decision scuttled what promised to be one of the better races of the night, pitting Pope John Paul II's Nicole Schappert and teammate Jackie Areson in the mile. Areson was disqualified just before the start for having her shirt untucked. Schappert was so shaken as her distraught teammate cried in the infield, she started the race poorly.
"They started the race and I didn't know what I was doing," she said. "I bolted out because I was so worked up. I went out way too fast."
Eventually she found her rhythm and won the race at 5:09.00. She also won the two-mile at 11:11.34. Still, she says, she wonders what she and Areson could have done in the mile, the race they had aimed for.
"We had planned on setting the stadium record," she said. "We had trained for it. We would have run under five minutes."
Areson will go on the the state tournament, too. She regained her composure and went on to win the 800 meters in stadium-record time of 2:16.52.

X-man knocked off track ORlando Sentinel
LSU recruit Xavier Carter of Palm Bay, the nation's fastest football player, won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes at Monday's 3A, District 13 track meet at Showalter Field, but he re-injured his left big toe in doing so.
The nagging injury could impact Carter's hopes of repeating a rare state meet triple in two weeks at the University of Florida.
