Collins faces doping charge http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/athletics/3834697.stm
American sprinter Michelle Collins, world indoor 200m champion last year, has been charged with a doping offence. The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) is seeking a lifetime ban and has decided there is "sufficient evidence to proceed with the adjudication process". Collins' lawyer Brian Getz said: "USADA notified me of its intent to ban Michelle Collins for life." Getz said he would "vigorously oppose" any ban on Collins, who has never failed a doping test. Collins was one one of four American sprinters - including world 100m record holder Tim Montgomery, Chryste Gaines and Alvin Harrison - who received letters from USADA informing them they were being investigated for possible drug use. The agency has built its case against her and other athletes, including three-time Olympic champion Marion Jones, on evidence from the federal investigation into the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO). Jones, who is being investigated for possible doping but has not received a formal USADA notice, met with officials from the anti-doping agency last month. She has repeatedly denied ever using prohibited substances.
