SAN VITTORE OLONA, Italy -- Saif Saaed Shaheen of Qatar survived a
fall and a bruised leg to win the Five Mills cross-country race
Sunday.

Benita Johnson of Australia won the women's race.

Shaheen, the former Stephen Cherono of Kenya, beat Boniface Kiprop of
Uganda and Olympic marathon champion Stefano Baldini of Italy at the
finish line.

Kiprop gained on the leader when Shaheen fell during the fourth of
five laps, and finished 4 seconds behind. Baldini was next, 26 seconds
back.

Johnson, the world cross-country champion, beat Hungary's Aniko
Kalovics and Kenya's Rita Jeptoo.
