The New York Jets have been out-bid in their attempt to buy the site
for the proposed 2012 Olympic stadium.

The American football team had led the hunt to purchase the land from
the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and build the Olympic
centrepiece.

But rivals Cablevision, who own Madison Square Garden stadium, and
TransGas Energy have offered more money.

The MTA will make a final decision on Thursday after Olympic chiefs
warned the row is threatening New York's bid.

A Manhattan rail yard has been earmarked for the Olympic Stadium but
owners MTA have not decided who to sell it to.
