Do you manaully run Xvesa? IIRC I setup the T-Resc to run Xfb if a
framebuffer is avaiable. Thus it should run in exactly the same mode
as set-up during bootup by the kernel. The kernel FB mode in turn
can be set with the vga= argument. The value passed are the VESA
modes numbers + 0x200. All the modes and resulting numbers are
also ducumented in the Linux kernel:

  linux-2.6.20/Documentation/fb/vesafb.txt

The mode for the k-drive vesa server are the same. Just that one does
not need to add 0x200 and is currently hardcoded for the rescue target:

  /etc/minit/x11
