Hi all,
for some time now we had a world map on the T2 user's startpage,
however this map had some more and more nagging drawbacks:
- the old map was based on Frappr, which is:
- bought by Yahoo!
- main site requires Flash, now
- HTML view was disabled when they went Flash and only
re-enabled on popular request but does not work right anymore,
only half of the T2 users pins of the Flash view show up
in the HTML view
- loads very slowly
- we do not have the data and don't know what they do with it
The old map can still be seen here:
http://www.t2-project.org/startpage/index-old.html
In order to fix the biggest issue, not showing all pins, we have written an own
- all-new - implementatin just using the Google Maps API:
http://www.t2-project.org/startpage/
Pros of the new map code:
- we have the data and can render all sorts of views from it,
like world map, now and even later the contributor list at:
http://www.t2-project.org/developer/people.html
- we can later use the now introduced "T2 ID" for all points
where one can somehow log into T2 websites, like:
- SVN
- Trac
- Homepage / Wiki edit
as single sign-in.
- our server side CGI written in Lua!
- we can change the map pins to nice T2 pins or so
- and last but not least: the maps shows all actual contributors
(not only to those with Flash)
I hope you love it as well - yours,
