I think it's the bad taste I got from the Hibernate guys. I had once a popular RFE which was rejected like 5 times, and I had to maintain a locally-patched version of the library just because Gavin is in a rather long bad mood period. Maybe he's getting old. Or maybe I was just annoying to him. Who knows!

(thankfully the patch did get accepted after 6 months...)

Anyway, if the issue is urgent for me, I usually patch myself the code and wait for the third-party (be it Hibernate, Spring, Hivemind, Tapestry, Struts, Jakarta Commons or others I've been involved with) to catch up later, if they like my patch. But that's for personal uses. I'll try to minimize that with open libraries (since I agree with you that patched jars *are* confusing).

So, don't worry. I'm fully aware of the cost of library modifications. And even more, if it was a stable release, stability would be also an issue (Tacos not so much since we're still in beta).

Let's see what happens in Hivemind.

Sorry for jumping on it so much Leonardo, I understand wanting to get things done without having to wait...But I'm also very much against supporting library modifications of any kind. Sometimes it ~has~ to be done, but hopefully those are incredibly rare cases. (Like us with AjaxForm before I joined the tapestry team )

I just want tacos to be viewed as a fun and easy to use library. Doing things like this I think might cause confusion ultimately, and things are confusing enough as it is.

That being said, I love the patch work you've been adding in. It's really cool stuff...So, if we have to knock on our big brother a little bit (hivemind) to get these features in I'm all for it.
