1) Yes it works using friendly URLs on Tomcat. I'm using that setup myself.
2) No, AFAIK there's not much of load tests. We're still in beta and we are open source, so we'd gladly take contributions. You can also check the Dojo project for existing performance issues, too.

Performance question: how does Tacos hold up if the network or server is really loaded? I used a simple XMLHTTPRequest a while back and under network/server loading, sometimes it would work, and sometimes it would not without notification. It didn't give me a lot of confidence.
