we have been working hard to better hide the wiki for years ;-)
When I started mapping, the wiki was prominently linked as first or second item
of a link list aside the map.
After a while this list was redesigned and some links became bigger than
others. Then the wiki link went from the sidebar to the top, still quite
prominent.
Then the wiki link was "downgraded" to be available only on a secondary page
(i.e. it was removed from the map), behind another link ('help'). The help page
grew, but the wiki link remained the last item:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/help
In the next iteration I think we could add another subpage or two between help
and the wiki link ;-)
