There are frequently "<neighborhood name> historic district"
which are signed, and more importantly denoted by regulation, meaning: within this district you need permission to make pretty much any change to the land or structures that would be visible from (outside | the public sidewalk or road | something else). but generally, it does not mean "this is the boundary of the area referred to by this place name".
