If the problem is related to tag handler reuse, adding super.release() will not fix the problem (even though it may still be a good idea). The release() method is only called once, just before the tag handler is no longer to be used. To fix problems related to reuse, you must make sure that per-invokation state gets reset for each invocation, typically in the doStart() method.
