Folks:

I was writing a note to the Tamias ¹ researcher, Jean Lorchat, and pointing
out how Tamias seems to be at least partially exploring the same design space
as our "accounting" project and some other ideas we have sketched out. I
wanted to give them a link to the current state of play in accounting, but
there are too many documents! Someone who understands this stuff please tell
me which point of entry is authoritative and recent, and if the other stuff
should be deleted/archived or what.

  • #666 ; probably the right place to have an authoritative,
up-to-date point of entry ; referenced from wiki:AccountingDesign
  • accounting-overview.txt ² ; last touched substantively about 3
years ago ; referenced from #666
  • wiki:AccountingDesign ³ ; last touched about 3 years ago ;
referenced from #666
  • wiki:QuotaManagement ⁴ ; last touched substantively about 4 years ago
  • old-accounts-pubkey.txt ⁵ ; last touched substantively about 4
years ago ; referenced from wiki:AccountingDesign
  • old-accounts-introducer.txt ⁶ ; last touched substantively about 4

I notice that the accounting system is still centralized, which is of course the low hanging fruit - we cannot let the best be the enemy of the good enough. However a centralized accounting system means one has to have a lot of small tahoe storage systems, rather than one big storage system, which significantly limits the benefits obtained by m of n storage.
