Another way would be to just disable Trash on the persistent volume. I've not read the Trash specification [1], and I've not tested it either, but I've seen $someone_on_the_Internet suggest that creating $PERSISTENCE/.Trash and/or $PERSISTENCE/.Trash-1000 as *regular* files would be enough to achieve this.
