I think that brainstorming and sketching like this is a good way to move forward. - A first I thought the whale was not a good metaphor for Tails, but in the end they are pretty quiet and hard to localize when seen only from the outside. - The mouse also looks like a good alternative to the cat. They are quiet, tiny, and always hidden in places where you don't expect them to be! - I also like the idea of the costume. That might work if we keep a more cartoonish style for the logo, having an animal dressed as another one. A bit like this one :) http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.5014345465399263&pid=15.1&H=220&W=160 - And a meta comment. for example Tor as the onion log and also writes TOR with the O as the onion. If we want to do something similar we need the image to be strong on its own, understandable without the letters, like for the onion logo.
