Today, I saw an article at ArsTechnica.com that reminded me of the subject issue, and it got me wondering if a Windows driver update to the USB firmware might be the cause of the issue on the affected computers.

If the users typically have a Windows computer that they insert the Tails USB into that is freezing at that point - the title of the article about "bricking USB" sounded very similar to this issue.

The article is entitled:  Windows Update drivers bricking USB serial chips beloved of hardware hackers at URL:

http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/10/windows-update-drivers-bricking-usb-serial-chips-beloved-of-hardware-hackers/

"The move to combat counterfeit chips leaves hobbyists stuck in the middle."
