Having used Tails on several systems with several different types of WiFi adapters--and sometimes booting it and walking away for a bit--I've never seen this. I just booted a laptop, left it at the Tails Greeter's screen for 20 minutes and everything worked. Please file a bug using Whisperback providing information about what type of hardware you're experiencing this with so that it can potentially be fixed.
