Hi Everybody.

I’m new, so please excuse my lack of knowledge. I have a problem getting TOR to
connect in Tails.

I’m running Windows 10, and have no problems connecting to my company’s wifi
with TOR using bridges. However, when I shutdown my system and then start it
again in Tails – using the same PC, the same wifi settings, and with TOR set to
run exactly the same way I set it to run in Windows, it can’t connect.

I’ve checked everything. Twice. The only difference between the two systems (I
mean between Windows10 and Tails) is Tails.

When Logging in to Tails, I first choose to forward through the welcome screen,
and DO NOT enable MAC Spoofing (because I don’t want to cause connection
problems), then I choose the option about my ISP filtering my connection.

When Tails then starts up, I connect to wifi by entering all the appropriate
settings (exactly as I do in Windows). Once this wifi connection is connected,
the TOR connection wizard pops-up and guides me through the set-up of TOR. I
choose bridges and enter the list of obfs4 bridges that I get from
bridges.torproject.org
I then choose NO for proxy server because I don’t need a proxy for connection.

Then TOR tries to connect, but can’t. The little progress bar doesn’t even
start moving. I wait 5 – 10 minutes, and still nothing. I get no error
messages. My system clock is updated well and truly by now, so I can’t see what
the problem could be.

I can open the “Unsafe Browser” without a problem. So my wifi connection is
fine. I can surf the net to whatever sites I want for hours with the unsafe
browser. So, clearly, the problem is not my wifi connection in Tails. That is
working perfectly, as demonstrated by the operation of unsafe browser. It’s
just TOR that can’t seem to connect.

I’m baffled. The only idea I have is based upon my observation that the only
difference in the way I set this up, is the bridges list. Whereas in Windows, I
simply tell TOR that I want bridges and it automatically connects via bridges,
in TAILS I have to get the list of bridges from torproject myself. Could that
be the problem?? I’m entering them as per the manual, I’m not making any
mistake there. Could it be that the bridges supplied from torproject are out of
date? Whereas when TOR does it without my input (in Windows) it works perfectly.

Any suggestions as to where I should go next, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
- Joe.
