you can use cryptsetup to create an LUKS partition. However, TrueCrypt
7.1 is still widely used. It was not abandoned due to security flaws.
In fact no-one knows why it was abandoned (some think they were
pressured due to making such a secure system). Anyway, TrueCrypt went
through validation testing and found no known backdoors or
vulnerabilities in the software. You can find the 7.1 version around
the internet.
