I am hazing big problem with Tails =(

In short, I get this error:
VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0)

It seems grub is pointing to wrong place or gets stuck looking for missing
or truncated file(s)

It seems to happen during dd write maybe

Some Info:

- I download Tails 2.7.iso from:
dl.amnesia.boum.org/tails/stable/tails-i386-2.7/tails-i386-2.7.iso

- I dd Tails 2.7 onto trusted USB stick; it installs

- I boot Tails 2.7; it boots

- I clone live system using Tails Installer and point at trusted USB
stick; get udisk error (unreproducable, see below)

- I swap USB sticks and host machines and try again; same but .iso dd'd on
host A only boots on host A, not host B; same but opposite for .iso dd'd
on host B

- I figure Tails 2.7.iso is fucked and redownload it with other Tails;
same issue

- I dd Tails 2.6.iso from personal archive to both USB sticks (been using
2.6 since release, re-dd'd a few times; all good); but grub is black
screen

- I wipe USB sticks; same issue

- I try dd using Tails system; same issue

- I check host machines by booting dd and cloned versions of Tails 1.4 and
2.4 from personal archive (already on USB sticks); everything is fine;
they clone fine and those clones boot; USB sticks and host machines seem
to be fine

- I use personal archive of Tails 2.6 and install it on friends trusted
USB stick and boot on host machines and get the error (as noted above):
VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0)

- I poke around .iso and installed file system but I know nothing =(

- I search the interwebz and support list for solving but I post here

*Trusted means used for every step in this process since Tails 1.2 or so

Please help me and muh frinds have working Tails
We will love you forever
