First, let me apologize if this post ends up in the wrong place. I haven't used
a mailing list discusiion board in decades and just subscribed to receiving
email from this list, so i cannnot directly respond to a post.
In my case, the issue of the looping on the Greeter Screen (or blue screen
also) was due to a video conflict. I have both Intel and Nvidia GPUs. No issues
prior to upgrading to 2.10.
If stuck on a blue screen, try <ctrl><alt><del>. Do you get
'gnome-desktop-setting.daemon not responding', (the error is from memory and
may be slightly misquoted)? If so, it is probably a video GPU conflict.
Some things to try:
In your boot line options, remove 'splash' and 'quiet' and add 'nomodeset' at
the end of the options. Can you now boot up normally? If so, it raises the
likelyhood that you have a video conflict. My resolution comes up in VGA and I
can't change it with xrandr since the X server is running with the -noreset
option.?.
If you have a Intel and nvidia GPU , remove 'quiet' and 'splash' (maybe not
necessary but I prefer to do so) and add 'nouveau.modeset=0' at end of line.
This works fine for me, everything normal.
