Hi all,

Open Knowledge Belgium aims at being an umbrella organisation. That means that we are doing our uttermost best to do things for you and not restrict you in any way. You can use our (being you and the other working groups such as Creative Commons Belgium or Open Acces Belgium) legal entity as if it was your own through the representatives Ben Abelshausen and now also Nicolas Pettiaux: they can do financial transactions and sign paperwork as part of the board of the legal entity.

Feel free to tell everyone that Open Street Map Belgium is an official organisation and whenever they ask you a registration number, you give the registration number of Open Knowledge Belgium. That's why we exist.

Having similar goals, I believe we're stronger under one umbrella than having strong volunteers having to take care of the administrative sides of running an asbl/vzw.

@Ben: I find the Local Chapter idea a very good idea. Creative Commons Belgium did the same thing within Creative Commons International.

Kind regards,

Pieter

I explained why. I am not sure that the visibility of our
organisation is optimal. Press releases in the name of an
dedicated ASBL/VZW could give us more weight. Contacts with
institutions could be more formal. For the contributors also, it
could have some importance to have 'their' own circle. I refer
    also to the French example.

I agree that in some cases it may be better but with where we are now we simply don't have enough resources to do this, in volunteers, funding and time.

What there is now is, in my opinion ok for now. Once we get more people involved we can reevaluate the situation. I'm also thinking about submitting to become a local chapter of the OSMF. Maybe that will already meet some of your expectations:

If everyone agrees, anyone willing to take this on? (With my help!)

Met vriendelijke groeten,
Best regards,

Ben Abelshausen
