I'd suggest that you hit the linux user groups in Alberta. Then hit the Universities, and try to find people that like cartography and maps. My suggestion about printing was to help with flyers and getting the word out, so like minded people could congregate. >> a base map provided by the Government of Canada > There are people working on securing this right now. However, the Government would have to have the rights to such a map, and would also have to be willing to release this map under terms palatable to OSM so we could include it in the map. While it would be great to get something like this, I wouldn't even blink an eye in my current mapping to consider it -- while this will fill in gaps, things we have mapped will be more current and will probably be more accurate. But, there was no slippy map, there was no Potlatch editor, and most important, there was no mapping done anywhere near me. When I happened by a number of months later, Potlatch was there, along with a slippy map. This made the project simple to edit and simple to use. And, more importantly, there were a few bits around where I lived. Not everything was there, but some streets that I recognized were there. And, some things were wrong. and much was still missing. And that motivated me to help. And, I dare say, it motivated quite a few other people to be involved. It really does lend weight to the saying "a lot of hands make light work of any task". Once we have enough people helping, I think even lobbying a government or two would become child's play. Thanks, Gerald
