More nice stuff from Frederik. He is now providing additional formats for Canadian extracts of OpenStreetMap data. If I remember correctly, these are updated daily. I have taken a quick look at http://download.geofabrik.de/north-america/canada.html and found the following:

As with the other shape files on the server, they are somewhat limited because they don't have multipolygon support; this is due to the fact that multipolygon processing requires a increased processing effort that we can't afford on the download server at the moment.
