Congratulations, you've now mapped enough to hit the API limit. Console shows:

ERROR: org.openstreetmap.josm.io.OsmApiException: ResponseCode=400, Error 
Header=<You requested too many nodes (limit is 50000). Either request a smaller 
area, or use planet.osm>

It brings back memories of when I had to download progressively smaller areas 
for editing - when I started I could get open the whole of Tendring distrinct 
(if I remember correctly - I think that was under the area limit just about).
