I have mapped some largish attenuation ponds as landuse=basin,
basin=detention here http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/53.7810/-0.4483
These are specifically described by the council, who commissioned them,
as flood alleviation. These are supposed to work by quickly filling
during heavy rainfall and slowly emptying into the conventional drainage
through a restricted outfall thus spreading out the rainfall and
preventing flooding.
