Thanks Jez, I have begun my researches and will loop back here in due course - I think I've understood that the email list is much more active in the UK than the forums.
dzidek23, quite right: multiple issues with apps and updates listed on their 'view the map' page! And now all that data is presumably not free, but Google's.
