Hi guys, As shared by maning, foursquare has switched to using OpenStreetMap data for their maps. They went with the MapBox Streets tileset which is provided by MapBox and was developed using MapBox's TileMill product.
I actually find the MapBox Streets tileset gorgeous. I find a certain finesse to their cartographic style choices such as use of smaller fonts and street widths. (If you have poor eyesight, then this style is definitely not usable for you.) One major problem, though, with this tileset is that it only goes to zoom level 16 (officially; unofficially, level 17 tiles are available) (which is one of the main complaints of superusers on foursquare). Another problem is doesn't seem to be updated as often as the others (like the Mapquest Open tiles or the main OSM Mapnik tileset). Anyway, if you want to browse the MapBox Streets tileset, here's the official link: http://tiles.mapbox.com/mapbox/map/mapbox-streets On Thu, Mar 1, 2012 at 9:19 AM, maning sambale <emmanuel.samb...@gmail.com> wrote: > http://blog.foursquare.com/2012/02/29/foursquare-is-joining-the-openstreetmap-movement-say-hi-to-pretty-new-maps/ > -- > cheers, > maning > ------------------------------------------------------ > "Freedom is still the most radical idea of all" -N.Branden > wiki: http://esambale.wikispaces.com/ > blog: http://epsg4253.wordpress.com/ > ------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph
