Hello Stefan,

It's the best place you wrote, and first I will start with a big THANK YOU for
the written feedback and oppinion, it's very valuable.

I hope you had a nice trip through Romania. Now it's too late for this trip,
but for your friends and for next time: www.openmap.ro/moto - this showss the
state of the roads. You will see that you were very lucky having good roads
even on the small ones - for sure a well planned trip.

Some of the things you mentioned can be fixed, some of them not yet as for
example the compiler has limitations.

Checked now - Lock On Road - not working, I think this is compiler limitation

Terrain - yes, but maybe this can be fixed
Concurrent maps - I've seen that there are equipment differences, sometimes
maps can be disabled/enabled. On my etrex this does not happen, otherwise I
would complain first. Good to know.

All the best
Feri.

Subject: [Talk-ro] Travel Experience

Hi there,

sorry if this is the wrong place, but I would like to share my experiences
using http://osm.stilpu.org/garmin-mapsource/OSM-RO-20110727.exe on my recent
motorbike trip through Romania, totaling close to 3000km in two weeks.
Equipment used: MapSource 6.16.3 for route creation on a HP 5103 Netbook,
Garmin StreetPilot 2610 on the bike.

- Map quality: mostly exceptional good quality even on small roads – big
compliments!
- Routing: works reasonably well both within MapSource and on the SP2610,
although the GPS 'lock to road' feature is missing for most of the roads I
travelled (easily detectable as there is always a circle-of-error shown on the
GPS device around the current position)
- main complaint: terrain description (orchard, wood, swamp etc.) is almost
always in the foreground on the GPS device, i.e. the route is not visible 90%
of the time, irrespective of zoom level. In some locations (for example the
area between Hungarian border and Arad on the DN7) even the roads and villages
are hidden behind the terrain. This is very annoying. I would switch terrain
completely off for usage in MapSource.
- minor complaint: the terrain indication is mostly wrong (for example, it
shows 'orchard' when there is forest, swamp when there is vineyards and so on –
but not systematically, i.e. forest is not always shown as 'orchard', it all
seems very erratic. But most of the time it is just plain wrong). This would be
another reason to switch terrain display off.
- minor complaint: the OSM map and the base map of the GPS device are shown
concurrently. For some unknown reason the much better OSM map does not take
priority over the built-in base map which can be confusing when navigating
without a fixed, pre-calculated route (i.e. using the GPS device just as a map
replacement).

That being said, my trip would have been much more difficult without using your
map, so again, big compliments to you! Keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot, and best regards
