Hi Peter, Thanks for getting in touch. Clifford and Frederik already made good points, and I have little to add except perhaps also subscribe to talk-us, which is where most U.S. based mappers communicate. I do not know (of) any HI based mappers off the top of my head, but if there are any, they may hang out there - or folks who know them.
Another tip is to search meetup.com for local groups that have an interest in geo / mapping. You can subscribe to talk-us here: http://lists.osm.org/listinfo/talk-us - I will cc this message there.
