Seems to me we are free to use the data in GeoNames(1) It's under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License(2) My only concern with the data and this is the same for Wikimapia(3) is the imagery used in the background. It happens to be google maps. Both maps derived their data from google maps imagery which makes this whole thing murky. All i can find for Wikimapia (4) - (5)
