Actually, if anyone doesn't want such things on this list, just let me know, and I'll honor said requests. I just send them along because they're usually amusing. ----- Original Message ----- From: "derek Lane" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

0. Introduction.
1. New DreamHost PS: MySQL!
2. New One-Click: Moodle!
3. New One-Click: PhpGedView!
4. Make Our Panel Faster!
5. Stop Voting On Us!
6. DHSOTM

########################################################################
0. Introduction.

You know that horrible, sinking feeling you get, deep in the pit of your
guy, sometime around the first of the month? The feeling that "here it
is, the beginning of September, and I have absolutely no new features
nor new theme for LAST month's newsletter, let alone this month's."? Or
am I the only one who gets that?

Is the sinking feeling YOU get more "at any moment 23KB of my Inbox and
3 seconds of my life will be wasted deleting the next DreamHost
Newsletter"?

If so, isn't it ridiculously interesting how two people so intimately
connected (Happy DreamHost Newsletterer and Happy DreamHost Customer)
could have such vastly differing views of an event so central to their
relationship? And how three paragraphs into another nonsensical stream-
of-consciousness newsletter introduction I still haven't found any sort
of a coherent theme to latch on to?

########################################################################
1. New DreamHost PS: MySQL!

I'm now going to claim that that brings me nicely to my first section,
an interesting one about a new feature we're claiming to have ready to go,
even though we're probably weeks if not months from actually putting it
into a "fully-live" state.

Last month, you clamored for it in blog comments, you nagged about it in
the emails, you even yelled over the phone (just kidding, there IS NO
PHONE!) .. and well, we read, read, and listened!

The same place you went a few short fort-nights ago to register for the
wait list for DreamHost PS (exactly the same web hosting, but with
protected CPU and RAM) is now taking pre-orders for DreamHost PS MySQL!

Again, it's the same exact MySQL hosting you're used to, but isolated
from all your smarmy Happy DreamHost Neighbors! The pricing is the same
for now ($1/10MB/month), and you can get DreamHost PS MySQL without
getting DreamHost PS, and vice versa!

However, if you get BOTH you get 20% off your ENTIRE monthly PS bill!
Which, if you think about it, means if you have a PS over 600MB already,
you should definitely get a DreamHost PS MySQL because it's essentially
FREE!

Interesting, no?

########################################################################
2. New One-Click: Moodle!

I read an interesting blurb in business week saying that 99% of company
newsletter readers only look at the pictures.

I hope that's not true, because I forgot to include any pictures of our
next two sections, each about a new one-click install:

    https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=goodies.installer

This one being a "Course Management System" for all you Happy DreamHost
Teachers out there! If you've got a bunch of Internet-enabled children
trying to learn something interesting from you, you need to use your

########################################################################
3. New One-Click: PhpGedView!

Another interesting blurb in said weekly business magazine I read said
that only 1% of newsletter readers will read a newsletter that has more
than 5 sections, and only 4% of them if it also has an introduction!

Well, all the better.. we haven't tested any of these features anyway!

Has one more one-click just waiting for you to install on a lark.. this
one being an "Online Genealogy Program" for all you Happy DreamHost
Family Tree-ers out there! If you've got a bunch of Internet-enabled
children or ancestors you're trying to learn something interesting about,
you need to use your

########################################################################
4. Make Our Panel Faster!

Gotcha! There is NO WAY to make our panel faster!

Well, maybe a teeny tiny itty bitty bit. If you don't mind, you can now
go to:

    https://panel.dreamhost.com/id/?tab=prefs

And check "Use non-secure HTTP for images and javascript on the panel"
really, there's no security risk, and it should make things just a hairy
bit faster for you.

I'm not sure if that has the added result of unloading our panel's web
servers a bit or not. It would be slightly interesting to find out.

########################################################################
5. Stop Voting On Us!

You know what's interesting? How much more AWESOME we are than Google:

    http://www.bloggerschoiceawards.com/categories/3

Look how we CRUSH them in the polls, currently with 307 votes for "Best
Corporate Blog" to their measly 306! I guess that big push we made last
newsletter really worked! Well, everybody can relax now, we've got a
comfortable lead and clearly don't need any more ballot stuffing this
month.

Job well done.

########################################################################
6. DHSOTM

Yay, my favorite section each month is here again! I love it because
it's always so interesting to see what crazy flash-based portfolio will
win THIS time at our DreamHost Site Of The Month contest:

    https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.dhsotm

Well, I'm sad to say, this month's winner is no such thing. In fact it's
a completely BORING blog about by probably the most BORING person who's
ever BORED the world with their LACK of insight; an unborn baby:

    http://www.gillbaby.com/

I mean, come on, even if I was born yesterday I'd still have 4.5 months
of extra insight on this blogger!

The site is SO boring, I think it's allowed me to finally arrive at my
theme for this month's newsletter: BOREDOM. Boredom and all the BORING
BANALITY that it entails. At least that came out of it.
