We have a Medicaid and Medicare Eligibility application that gets real time eligibility information for admissions clerks. We keep the applications running 24/7 because the ER never closes. I wrote an app to check the operation of the eligibility apps and email the results of the check to me. If the server is down, I also send a text message to my cell phone which acts like a pager. I used "aemail" to write the email / paging portion. It is very easy to use and very inexpensive ($100 for 10 licenses) If all you want is a way of notifying someone when an event occurs, this will work. Of course it requires the PC to have internet access.

If you need more details, give me a call.

You should also be able to use the Windows connection to interface with hyperterminal or procomm and dial a number.

TALKERS (we need a nickname, right?),

I have a request to look into writing a script that will take an order from Meditech’s OE module and interface with a dialing application of some sorts and page a designated number.

   1. Still being new about working with Meditech, does anyone know if
Meditech has integrated dial-out software, and if so, how is it
to work with (share your experience?)?
   2. Has anyone done this (from any Meditech module or even some
      other application)?
   3. What did you use as the dialing application?
   4. Would you be willing to share your script and experience? How
about just the experience if you don’t want to share the script?
   5. Anyone have ANY insight into this type of project (pitfalls,
      what NOT to do, etc)?
   6. Arrrrrrh, did ye know todahy tis talk like a pirate day, ye
      lubber you? J
