William,

As far as capabilities, it can be done.

I am just starting to work on a project to build with BWS and BDS what I refer to as an HL7 router, rather than an engine, because it’s only purpose will be to do simple processing on the HL7 segments that the receiving application/process needs.

I will be glad to keep you up to date with how it goes if this interests you.

Also, if you go to www.bostonsoftware.com, and look in the TALK archives, there are several previous discussions about HL7.

With the advent of BDS, I believe it will be relatively painless process to produce this script, since the basis is nothing more than a few loops to process segments and data. And the BDS handles the tough stuff, like field presentation.

I plan to be deep into this in the next week or so.

Any questions, feel free to email or call. I play nice with others!

Subject: [Talk] HL7 Question

I am a brand new user of Boston Workstation and was I wondering about HL7 capabilities. Does anyone have any sample scripts where they access HL7 data? More specifically from a McKesson STAR system?

Thanks,
