A few things that I learned while playing with DataStation (may or may not apply to your situation)   To rename, I have to be right on the field, or very very close when I click on it. If I am too far to the middle or right of the ‘1’ in the name field, nothing opens to do the rename.   When you rename, you are only renaming within DataStation, and that data id kept in the BDS Configuration File. So, 1) don’t expect to see the field in your Data File (I wouldn’t expect you too, but it doesn’t hurt to state the obvious) and B) remember to designate the data file’s Configuration File when you re-open the data file in DataStation; this is where all of the info, including the re-name, is kept.   Good Luck!
