If I were doing it, the program would tab to the box, then send the first
letter of the value wanted.  If the value's first letter were unique, that
selection would be finished and the program could continue to the next
field.  If the first letter were not unique, the program would have to arrow
down n times to the proper value.

It goes nearly unsaid that the program would have to have safety features in
case one or more options were added that had the same initial letter as the
option desired.
