Thanks Rich, That points me in the right direction.  It seemed though the script would hang up every so often, and the idx session would time out,  so I put in the activate command to see if the idx session was open.  If not, the script would open a new idx session and continue.  With this information, it tells me that I need to back up in the process and trap errors, if any, that hang the script and cause the session to time out.
