Greetings,
Whoops – a bit quick on the Send button there
J Here’s the full text!

I’ve seen all of the below with the exception of Benchmark (anyone with this out there?)

Below is an “overview” how we connected to them.

GE – I’ve seen the Logician practice management system so I’m making a guess that this is what you are talking about. This was a Windows application –so use the Windows connection
A4 – was a character based system. The specific connection to use would be based on the emulator
NextGen – This was a Windows application – so use the Windows connection
Emdeon – I’ve worked with the Emdeon office website (web connection) – but I’m assuming your talking about what is also known as Medical Manager  – the flavor I’ve seen most recently was Windows, but I believe there may be a character based version(s) as well.
Mysis Tiger - This was a Windows application – so use the Windows connection

Regarding Web Services…
Since this is an “open forum” here’s some background for those not familiar with the term. Web Services are basically a way of taking a chuck of code that would “do something” if called from a “traditional programming environment – C++, Java, VB etc  and making it so you can call it by basically using a specialized URL. Web Services as a way for applications to share information is more popular in other industries than in healthcare. As for how much <actual data> is being sent this way – my suspicion is that there’s more noise than reality (that’s the way it was when I was working more closely with this sort of technology). That being said – I’ve always been intrigued with the concept and it’s potential, so I’m not disparaging it in any way. And you’ll see us doing more with Web Services in the future…

As for today - we do have the ability to expose a control that’s in the product that can call a Web Service in order to retrieve data from it – or to send information to it. So a Boston WorkStation script could grab data from a screen and send it to a system that has a Web Services that can understand what we captured. Similar to the way we send data over TCP/IP for example.

Thom

Subject: [Talk] Pulling Data from Practice Management Systems

We are looking for sites who either have scripts working to the following Practice Management Systems or who have access to any of the following Practice Managment Systems and would like to work with us on this development effort. We are interested in any proven access methods using Boston workstation: e.g., ODBC using Data Station or screen scrape using terminal, windows or Web.

We are interested in interfacing to the following Practice Management Systems to pull current patient demographics data including insurance and guarantor information:

GE, A4, NextGen, Emdeon(WebMD), Benchmark, Misys Tiger

Also, is anyone aware of Boston Workstation's ability to support Web Services? We have some vendors who prefer this access method.

Thanks,

Vicki Riggins
